CV tips that actually help you get noticed

If you’re applying for roles and not hearing much back, it can be frustrating especially when you know you’ve got the right experience. More often than not, it comes down to how that experience is coming across on your CV.

At Equals One Ltd, we review hundreds of CVs every week across a wide range of roles and there are a few simple things that consistently make candidates stand out (for the right reasons).

1. Keep it clear and easy to read

First impressions count. A CV that is clean, well-structured and easy to scan will always perform better than one that’s overcrowded or difficult to follow. Use clear headings, bullet points, and keep paragraphs short.

2. Tailor it to the role

It’s tempting to send the same CV out to multiple jobs, but a bit of tailoring goes a long way. Focus on the experience that’s most relevant to the role you’re applying for and mirror the language used in the job advert where you can.

3. Focus on what you’ve achieved

Employers don’t just want to know what your responsibilities were, they also want to understand the impact you made. Whether it’s improving a process, hitting targets, or supporting a team, try to show the value you’ve added.

4. Don’t overlook the basics

It sounds simple, but spelling mistakes, inconsistent formatting, or missing contact details can quickly put employers off. Taking a few extra minutes to double check your CV can make all the difference.

Your CV doesn’t need to be overly complicated  and it just needs to be clear, relevant and a true reflection of your experience.

If you’re currently job hunting, taking the time to refine your CV is one of the most worthwhile things you can do.

At Equals One Ltd, we work closely with employers across the UK and understand what they’re really looking for so these small changes can genuinely help improve your chances.
